Stand by me
After watching that video stand by me, it left me with the inspiration to start playing music again. The idea of musicians from around the world--unknown musicians at that--coming together to perform on one song is a pretty crazy thought. However it's starting to become a common thing with pop music. Today it seems like every song has a producer from somewhere else, or a songwriter from another country. The digital age has allowed music to be worked on from anywhere in the world. Here's an example. There is an organization founded by Linkin Park called Music For Relief. They created an album called Download to Donate with music from a huge variety of musicians (Slash, Linkin Park, Enrique Iglesias, Kenna etc.) and put it up on the internet to download. You have the option to donate money for the album but were not forced to. Anyway, they put together the album in a few days because of technology. Artists sent their songs via the internet, and they even wrote songs for the album that way. Mike Shinoda of Linkin Park who produced some of the music would send the song over the internet to an artist, who would then record their vocals on it. When they were done they would send it back over the internet and add it to the album. It's amazing how quickly an album can be put out now!

Did you know?
Did you know 4.0 is a cool little video that gives you crazy facts about today's technology. Well, I guess I should say statistics, but either way it's pretty interesting to find out some of that stuff. It was put online on September 14th 2009. For example, Cisco's Nexus switch can move all of Wikipedia in .001 seconds. That's pretty freakin' fast. Anyway, the video's roughly 4 and half minutes and about every 5 seconds is a new stat.
This video is interesting to say the least. It's kinda crazy to see how technology is advancing so quickly and pretty much sticks to Moore's Law. One thing I noticed is how quickly information was packed onto each slide and how little time you have to read it. It's sort of an unintentional metaphor of how the internet and today's technology is. Or maybe that's exactly what they were going for.
I know you're are wondering, "hey Craig, why did you have to mention the date that it was uploaded to youtube?" Plain and simple, they need an updated version with current stats. Don't get me wrong, I know it takes a while to put a video like that together, not to mention go out and find all that information; but we're in 2011 and if the Mayans are correct that leaves 1 year to put out another cool video.
